One of the sources of Islamic Law is Urf (custom) and Islam accepts customs which do not contradict Islamic essentials (Usul al-Din). There is nothing wrong to celebrate mothers day as long as the celebration does not contain in itself unlawful elements such as alcohol or any other haram items.

From Islamic point of view it is now lawful, because according to Islamic principles, the buyer has three days to return the item if he detects some defect in it. However, if there is no defect in the merchandise item he cannot return it after separating from the transaction place.
